talking to a freind to day re new saws coming out and he was saying a lot of the new saws are electronic carbs. so can not be fiddled with out in field.

i know most saws just go on and on and never need playing with.

but what saw is of the old school that still use a normal carb.

this is in the 40/50cc range. but most saws.

Husky are going down this road and sthil are following. is it a good thing or will it be a problem on small engines.

i know injectors can become problomatic. is this the same with the new carbs

I just got a stihl pamphlet from my local dealer and every pro saw in the line up is m-tronic, seems to be the way things are going. I think that it will be the end of home repairs.

Just look at the threads on here, how many 066, 088's are still running? Lots, I doubt we will see the same in 10-15 years with 661's or 261's still in service.

I think your ok with a newish saw etc but when its getting a bit worn etc there wont be any fiddling with the carb to compensate anymore so my thinking is is going to be a pain on a half decent saw that needs a tweek etc

It will fiddle with itself to "compensate " just as it does from new .....:001_smile:

not all of them actually, I just got the 461 rather than the 441 mostly to avoid m-tronic, the 201 also isn't m-tronic, and the 880 isn't yet...

Just replaced the crank gasket on my 560 and recon if it was not for the auto tune it would of wrote off the piston and cylinder.

I have read before auto tune can prevent massive failure from air leaks and can definitely say that's the case now... Won't prevent bearings failing though I suppose.

WELL THATS GOOD TO HERE" IF IT CAN SENSE FAULTS AND ADJUST ACORDINGLY THEN ITS A GOOD THING FOR THE END USER BUT NOT GOOD FOR SALES OF NEW SAWS IF IT SAFE GUARDS ITSELF

I have to admit that it does worry me. I have my doubts that we will be able to keep these things going for as long as we do the 'old school' saws.

Only time will tell.

I don't see why not, it'll just cost more on electronic parts surely? bet the m-tronic and auto tune systems cost a bit to replace.
