I'm just about to start climbing and need to start getting some gear together. Any advice on a good climbing rope to start with and any advice on harnesses?

Cheers

IMHO to me rope is rope but a harness is personal and how it feels to you, try a few before you buy a harness, there not cheap if you buy one you don't find comfy.

I can't imagine nothing worse than having to spend 2 maybe more hours hanging 25 meters up in a tree in a harness that feels like it's screwing you in the wrong'un

Petzl sequoia - great harness and all you need. You don't need anything fancy! I still use mine and it's a good price!

Any 13mm rope really, I use New England hi vee.

I started off using Yale xtc rope, and I still rate it as one of the nicest, toughest ropes on the market. Good value too.

My first harness was a Komet Butterfly, simple and tough, and I'm still using it. Relatively cheap, not the comfiest out there but I climb usually five days a week with no problems.

Agree on the XTC Joe.

Used mine for years, and have been using it for light rigging and pulling ever since retiring it as a climbing line.

I've tried using it for pulling. Any tips on how to keep their hands and legs still long enough to tie them?

Another vote for the Yale XTC here , I'm also on a Komet Butterfly harness , it's a good value bit of kit and pretty tough compared to some .

The sky's the limit if you have plenty cash and there's some lovely stuff out there .
