We have just fitted 2 to two of our trucks, thinking of fitting to chippers as well.

They sell them on ebay for a lot less.

They are great, pay as you go sim, phone it up and it texts you back with a link on google. Main reason was to find the vehicle if it is nicked but it does have the benefit that I can find out where the guys are..Used it this morning when waiting for them to turn up on site:001_smile:

You can also wire them in so you can turn of the fuel..

That looks like a great bit of kit. Live tracking and historical data, like the idea of being able to turn off the fuel.

Do you have a case citation for that? I would be interested to read the reasoning. :001_smile:

Employment law is fairly limited tribunals generally look at if the company policy has been followed correctly. If you don't have a company policy then there isn't much for them to look at. It may include the employment contract t&c's.

It's a particular interest of mine. I was a lead shop steward in my old trade for some years. :001_smile:

I doubt there has been a case yet but we were warned by an HR consultant that we should be open about which vehicles were tracked, especially if they were used solely. The reasoning is that data is collected and linked to that person, so it is relevant under both Human Rights and Data Protection Acts.

The firm I work for had a different opinion from HR. Their view was that if it is during work hours then an employer is legitimately entitled to know where their vehicle and employee are. Outside of working hours is a different matter. Looks like it's one of those that will need testing in court before a definite decision is given. Easiest way to limit the usage is stop your employee using the vehicle outside of work. :001_smile:
