It is considered normal to cut a PTO shaft to length.

The geometery/link arm length/PTO stub position varies so much between tractor brands and sizes.

So the PTO's are generally supplied on the long side.

One size fits all.

And yes need to be surprisingly shorter than the measured distance to allow for temporarily telescoping shorter to get the end over the PTO stub.

Hi Ashes,

 

if you get a new shaft for the saw make sure it has a shear bolt in it.

 

If you just need another shaft I can supply those too!

 

To get a longer shaft is very cheap, so we tend to get them on the long side as they can always be cut, but you cant make them longer!
