my latest purchase , needed a bit o work ,basically pulled it all apart for inspection and thoroughlt cleaned ,it was pretty good really ,the brake band was broken, a stripped top cover thread , drilled that out bigger as it wasnt even round threaded and plugged with a M7 bolt cut it off, redrilled and threaded to original. the clutch was a bit worn so swapped it from my other i had for spares , new fuel line and filter , stripped and cleaned the carb and anew carb kit for the HDA 87 off the other one ,( this had the smaller 120) , new gaskets etc new rope on the pull start , back together and its a beast :-) no de comp.bloody thing is tough to pull lol , yanks the handle from my hand

Nice saw I keep looking at them when they pop up on eBay thinking shall I ??

 

262XPs that are around for realistic money tend to be very, very tired in my experience. Assuming that the cylinder is good and original, they always seem to have a never ending list of mini-issues (cracks/stripped threads/random missing obsolete parts) that in the end would have half the thing held together by JB weld!

 

I've never found a reasonably priced doer-upper anyway...

the decomp was introduced on the 262 in mid 93 i believe my year 91 week 26 one and year 93 week 10 do not have them and not even a smooth part where it was planned to be , both are OEM cyl and pistons so are correct and they even have the casting dates on the cyl base beside the transfers , it was introduced later as folk were complaining about how hard they were to pull lol , it is tough , my 372 and 385 seem easier
