Ball and pin tow hitch.

Sorry, just to add. I assume they're all designed with the pin far enough back to take a standard agricultural type towing eye, but the one I get will certainly have to.

When you say agricultural hitch do you mean a trailer designed for a tractor (eg hay trailer or grain trailer) or a ring on a standard trailer?

I tried to tow a tractor trailer with a Dixon bate hitch last year and the ring was too deep for the hitch.

there is one, or there used to be a type (Dixon Bates?)

That had the pin co-axial with the 50mm ball.

Very tidy arrangment.

Seen a Dixon Bates on t'interweb but it's not co-axial, possibly something else on your mind???

Judging by the recommendations the Dixon Bates is plainly a quality bit of kit, however....

Yes I do, not to pull a big load but may have an empty trailer, water tanker, or some other bit of machinery to shift occasionally and that's the main thing I'm buying it for, so pretty much defeats the object if it can't take it. Very good to know however, thank you. Same would probably go for the Bradley.

What are you putting it on?

If you've got a height adjustable already, I'd just get an extra plate with a nato hitch on.

Thats the way to go, we have all sorts of jaws ,pin hitches and tow balls bolted to Dixon bates drop plates. Seconds to change over and height adjust. We have a pile of them ready to fit to whatever vehicle.

I bought a new drop plate for my landy recently and it came with one of the single pin plates like in your pic, I keep finding that in my mind I don't trust it and swapping it for the twin pin one off the other truck :)

Do you find it bangs a bit as there is a bit of play compared to my twin pin ?

I have never managed to break one yet, you are right about the one with two pins being better and they interchange with the single pin type.

If I`m thinking right the hitch difflock said about is the type with the pin through the centre of the ball, and a handle on the side you turn through 180 degrees to release the pin? JAW-E40TC-3500K-LES BOLTS-PL - Bradley

I used to have this type on an old vehicle, and did put an agricultural type puh ring in it, the only problem I had with it was, if you didn't use the pin regular it would start to seize in, even with a bit of grease around it, the salt/water seamed to wash it out, got to say though I didn't have a cover on when not in use, one might of helped.
