Errrr Because its a top handle?

I just don't get this ." Err coz its a top handle !" Surely standing on the ground with two feet firmly planted using a top handle has got to be safer than dangling from your harness and reaching out one handed and trying to flick it out past the green house below .

you can easily and very legally personally sell, air rifles, knives, swords, cross bows, mouse traps, power tools and any number of items where you can seriously hurt and even kill your self and others around you.

and you don't need any tickets or training!

can some one please explain why a top handle is any different?

Cos its Britain and we must all be wrapped in cotton wool just in case we might cut ourselves and when we do it must be someone elses fault.

I'am not saying it should or shouldn't be allowed to sell a top handle saw to any one without the correct certification but I'am sure if for example sthil wanted to, they could insist that all new top handles have to have the same hand over policy as all there other products and certification shown, of course this could only apply to new saws they sell

it's still a chainsaw at end of day, any idiot could use and ordinary saw on the ground or up a tree.

I personally don't see the difference, just cos it's a top handle?

I must have been doing this too long is this top handle thing has slipped from memory:001_huh:

Well here is the difference, top handled saws can be used one handed which means more kick back, that was the problem the HSE had a bee in their bonnet about. They accept that, with proper work positioning one handed use is acceptable in the tree because its often the only option. The same can not be said of work on the ground. Paulo Bavveresco (spp) did a contract research report for the HSE when he worked for Treevolution.

The HSE has a duty to intervene and that's what they did.

any saw can be used one handed, it's simple, you just let go of the front handle whether in a tree or on the the ground.

it's up to the user to get the positioning right and not **** up and get kickback.

its all down to user error

we need to stop being so pathetic
