honda crv

hi guys,

I'm buying honda crv next weekend. I know it's not a real 4x4 but it is very, very cheap and from somebody who looked after it. My thinking is- even if it's useless off road i can use it for part x once i save enough for a more serious truck. And it will still take me further up the forest track or field than my white van:001_smile:

My question is: what can I do to improve it's off road ability? First thing I'll do is to get better tyres, can you advice on some suitable but not expensive ones that would work on standard honda? Anything else I can do without spending too much money to make it work better off the tarmac?

Speak to Dalesway about budget off road tyres. Then find the tallest tyre that works on your new beast, think narrow and tall sidewalls.

Real cheap are insa turbo remoulds, but have heard some horror stories about them falling apart and not being able to be balanced.

good luck with the CRV PP, just watch out for worn prop and drive shafts as they are extremely expensive to repair !

It might not be as good off road as a defender but it has a honda badge which will make it more reliable. Most of these little soft roaders are surprisingly good off road.

As you have said, tyres!! I would get decent ones, they will be better off road, quitter on the road, get a better mpg and because you will get a lot more miles out of them, they will be cheaper in the long run. BFG's are very good.

Yep, some A/T's would serve you well and last a long time.

Yeah my folk have an s reg auto one 200K on the clock and going strong (and easy to drive with a broken hand )

Yokohama geolander at/s g012 are a good all terrain tyre and come in lots of sizes, have them on my Nissan xtrail which would be the same class of soft/roader as the Honda. Also you may find offroad tyres hard to come buy for the wheel size on the Honda the choice was very limited for my Nissan, and don't go too wild with larger tyres cuz it'll put your final drive gear ratio out as well as create the obvious clearance issues. Just some food for thought, hope this helps some.
