Tutti-fruity Chestnut !

Driving aroung my perimeter this morning, I had the fortune to catch a glimps of this little oddity.

 

Aesculus carnea branch flowering on Aesculus hippocastanum.

 

Perhaps someone was having a Willy Wonka moment with a grafting knife

 

Anyone else got any shots of dual flowering oddities?

That little gem of wisdom has literally knocked me for six.

 

If all else fails, and the world finishes tommorow.................at least "the talk" finally got the infamous Mr Lofthouse to do da Latin

interesting, along the grafting lines heres a graft from a bit of woodland at this weeks job

 

 

 

several of them, all at different heights, some sort of Ash, but none of the common varietys, trees varied 40-60feet tall

Unfortunately no pics,

 

we pruned a run of whitebeams last year that had flowering hawthorn sprouts growing from the rootstock.

Where i used to live in Yorkshire there was a line of Horse chestnuts like that, they had more carnea than the one you saw monkey. I suspect originaly they were 50/50 but the hippocastaneum was more vigorous. If I remember rightly they were near Cherry Burton, perhaps if one of our east yorkshire members is passing that way they could take a pic.

dunno if its "special" or not lol... but along the east lancs road there is a cherry blossom which has half white half pink blossom.. i shall try to get a pic before it falls
