Is a truck and trailer reasonable

https://www.gov.uk/towing-with-car To be able to tow anything that you'd get a real benefit out of a truck and trailer combo id say imo youd have to really get your trailer license depending on when you passed your driving test. Its an easy test but its another expense to add on so where your trying too save on insurance for say a tipper you could be making it more expensive for yourself. it is handy too have a trailer license however you will always have it then. Also another thing to consider is whether you have a place to store said trailer to keep it safe

Yep can tow upto 750 then need trailer test.

I've just insured a 55 plate ranger at £1600 and I'm 20

Owch!

I agree with the LDV option, should go on and on and not cost the earth.

If your on your todd, there will be a limit of how much you can cut and load on your own in one day, so perhaps you could find a groundy with truck etc. to help you?

Could you get your folks to insure it and add you as a named driver? thats how it was done in my day.:blushing:

Good luck to you, and I like your attitude too.

I work with a company Monday - Friday, and am keen to get my own name recognized around my area etc.. Km 19 and keen to do some jobs for myself on a Saturday.

Of course at this stage I don't have savings for a van and chipper, so would I be able to get away with a truck and decent sized trailer for Saturday work?

Just wondered if anyone out there does this themselves or what other ways there's could be?

Thanks, Harry!

I started with a transit connect and an 8x5 ifor trailer, go for it!

you have to be careful about going down that route being put down as a named driver when really you are the main driver as it could get you into trouble if something happened and the insurance company read into it. putting your parents down on your policy as a named driver however should reduce the cost in a perfectly legal way

Very true! Try adding a middle aged woman to the policy as a named driver either your Mum or partner brought my premium down a lot! But obviously don't let them drive your pride and joy :-)
