Yes you can, if you couldn't they wouldn't be making them like that:confused1:

 

They may make them like that for people who want to leave the carabina permanently attached to the rope.

I've got one of those Edelrid Rocka friction savers and only the smallest of factory spliced or sewn eyes will go through the small end.

Put the bina on the rope and turn it right around so it's basically upside down. That way you can leave it on the rope and unclip it off the harness to advance up a tree.

Just don't go throwing great distances with the bina on incase of damage to the bina or you.
