is sweet chestnut any good for burning

all I know is its a great burner, in a log burner, as it spits a lot.

not much info, sorry, but I am sure someone will buy it. good luck

my log shed has chestnut posts, they last for ever. so if firewood is not an option there are plenty of other uses.

Hi Chalky,

I'm sure it will sell. I burn a bit of sweet chestnut in the stove alongside whatever else I have. It's ok.

I would have thought you'd get interest if it was any good for the fencing teams.

Nothing beats a nice split chestnut fence.

Spits too much really for open fires even when seasoned - but good for woodburners. Burns well at high temperatures.

 

Used in traditional charcoal and also the iron industries of Kent and Sussex grew up in part because of chestnut. That was the beginning of many chestnut coppicing operations. Straight lengths are still valued round here for fencing products and firewood. :001_smile:
