Yet another 200t vs t540 thread.

So as the 200t vs t540 debate rumbles on i thought ide throw this in the mix.

What would you go for??.......

Used 200t from ebay for about £380. Seller says its a good starter/runner, been serviced etc.........or.......

New t540 from FR Jones for £525

If I knew the history of that 200t and it was well looked after I'd pick that saw in a heartbeat, but people will tell you anything so they can make a quick buck, you can easily spend £150 trying to fix it, so unfortunately I'd have to say the 540xp only because of the two year warranty

Seriously, how much worse is the t540 than the 200t? As in, how much will it really affect your productivity?

 

Not trying to start an argument, but it's madness to be thinking of a secondhand 5 year old saw rather than a new one with 2 years warranty for £150 more!

You'd maybe have a punt at a 2nd hand 200t if it was 225.00

 

Other wise get a new one or you will regret it.

 

An old 200t here messing about... but is there really any point fixing them....?

i'm coming round to the aged old addage "buy cheap buy twice" and thus its new all the way unless like previously said you are sure of its history!

Although I run a 200t and prefer it for power and ease of use. I would go for a new 540t over a second hand 200t as you will never know its history and as mentioned above you get a warranty on new.

The 200t I use the most is knocking on 10 years old. About 3 years ago it was in bits and I sent it to Spud to fix up and to port it as a project. If it died then so be it... it wouldn't be the end of the world. I do believe it was one of the first top handled saws Steve did.

 

It is one of the hardest worked saws I have had and brings a smile to most people faces when they use it.

 

So in answer to your question. Yes it is worth messing with or fixing an old 200t.

Sounds ok but if you add up post to and from spud then say 150 for spud? There wont be much change out of 200.00 would there
