It depends what you want to use it for. I had mine planked into 2" planks with one straight side so I could re-saw through the Stenner later. I then planked to 6" x 1 3/4" which were then groove jointed to form the worktops. Other pieces were milled to make cupboards etc.

Mr Thompson at Whiteleaf furniture's saw-mill in Risborough recommended that it be 'end stacked' i.e., stood up on end. This I did as well as sticking the planks so air could circulate.

I used 2/3rds for my kitchen and as I warned in my earlier post, the woodworm had the rest!

I only have the chopping board which was one of the blanks cut from a sink hole as an example. You can see the 6" plank run in the picture. There is a 1/4" slot in each plank with a tongue to join them

What would be the best way to mill this? Just through and through? Never get any big sycamore, used to most other timbers. I could quarter it then put it through my forestor... Be the least wasteful method I think.

if the tree contains more than just a bit of ripple then get it quarter sawn for stability and effect but if it's plain then just go through and through. end storing is the way to go unless you can get some plastic stickers like these,

i was thinking about buying a bundle, would you be interested in purchasing some with me to make it more viable?

I thought sycamore took on a green colouration when stacked normally, from the cut ends. How do the plastic stickers make a difference?:confused1:

Its more about when its felled, summer felled will stain, upending the planks or chaining the butt in a fast flowing river is said to help, as is leaving the crown on after felling until the leaves wilt.
