What does the manual say about setting Autotune?

The manual for my MS 261 M-tronic just says to use it . No need to re set the computer unless condition change drastically.

I have no loyalties. I am aiming at trading my 251 in for a 550 xp in a few weeks,then I may have two wheel chocks and will see for myself which is better....

From the manual and courtesy of another user: "Accelerate the engine and saw a number of cuts in a thick log (3-5min). The chain saw must run 8000-12000 the entire time so that the carb can adjust itself"

 

I do tend to think though that if auto tune then the whole point is it adjusts as you cut.. So should sort itself out anyway

Yeh, Just raggin mate. Over the years I've changed favouritism, in the '80s I was all husky. It changed over toward the white ones in the '90s for over 10 years when there probably wasn't much to choose between them as both had some epic models.

 

If I were to pick four epic saws from stihl during the 2000's, I'd say they would be 200t, 260, 361 and 660. Well what happened to them? Ha! Replaced by rubbish!

 

If you now compare the equivalent huskies, 540t, 550, 560 and any of 576, 590 or 595 it seems a no brainer.

 

Hence I'm now with the orange brigade again.

Yeh, but as I understand it, it needs an initial set up.

 

The translation from Swedish in the manual is bad, but as I understand it the saw needs heavy work initially without screaming out of the cut to set it properly. Avoiding such as milling initially for the first few tanks is it running in period, otherwise run as normal.

 

The auto tune does do a minor set up at every start up, but this is more to do with it being a colder start than how it was set when last turned off. It also acclimatises to current weather and temps etc.

I got two new 560xpg this week, one the Old Man has and he's just started felling without doing the cutting for few mins setting the auto tune. I'll set mine as the manual says.

 

Will let you know if any difference in running after a bit. Both are on 15" 3/8 though I'd really like to put an 8 tooth sprocket on mine.

- Took the spark arrestor out of both but put wee brass screw back in as it was blowing exhaust fumes straight onto chain brake handle and towards face.

 

If he started by felling, I doubt there will be a problem.

 

Regarding 3/8"x8, you need the standard 7-spline drum to do that - the saws usually come with the small 7-spline one.

Hi all, I received delivery of a new 560xp today and want to run it in correctly. In the past I have always just cracked on and used them as normal. I believe the modern way of running them in is to use them hard rather than let them tick over and take it easy on them. I have also heard of ways to set the auto tune, along the lines of, 'full revs into a large log for 4 minutes non stop', can anybody confirm this please? Thanks in advance, marc.

Apparently 8 drive sprocket configuration isn't listed in 560 parts manual, I'll run it for a bit and see how get on but would think on a 15" should have enough power not to die when doing bigger cut. Snapping chains is a different matter of course.

There is a 3/8 8t small spline available niko, may be worth a look for you
