Anyone used a grader box/land leveller?

The stone lane that leads up to our yard is constantly getting pot holes which I have up until now, been filling in with concrete, however this only lasts a few months before breaking up and disappearing. I have been considering in investing in a box grader to drag behind my tractor (36hp) to break up the surface and level it off, therefore filling in the potholes.

This is the sort of thing I was looking at:

Grader Boxes | Oxdale Products

Before I splash out £600 I want to be sure that this will do the job. The stones in the lane are very heavily compacted and im wandering wether this will actually be able to break them up enough to level them out. The lane is about 100m long. Any advice?

Without actually seeing the construction of the box in your link, I would be concerned that if its very compacted the box will just ride over it (particularly if there is any play in your linkage). You need a fair bit of power/weight in a tractor too to be ble to have the down-pressure required to grade off heavy compacted tracks.

How does a big tractor apply down pressure through the rear links? They are all single acting...

I dont think thats got a hope in hell of busting up a track . We have a Drott bulldozer with 6 rippers on the back and that struggles breaking up tracks . That weighs about 8 tons. That thing looks like its made for just hard soil.

At £600 it seems very cheap for what you're trying to do. Also concrete isn't great as a road surface. Try just 40mm to dust road stone and compact it in. A roller would be best but a wacker plate will do.

The first time the potholes appeared I just threw some blinding in and levelled it off, that lasted about a week. Then I did the same but went over it with the compactor plate afterwards, that lasted about a month. The concrete was only slightly better. Im fed up fixing them and its costing me time and money. I need a longer lasting and more cost effective solution.

Sorry, probably worded that wrong. As you know you can't apply pressure with the linkage but 300kg is no weight when it comes to scraping off tracks, it will simply ride over it with any play in the linkage. I have a grading bucket which weighs 300kg I then fill it with a ton or so of gravel and use that to grade of tracks pulled with a 95hp tractor, even then its impact on compacted hardcore isn't great.
