Firewood frustrations

had a customer said our wood was wet it was not as it had been stored in our wood shed all summer so was dry. he used to leave it out in his back yard uncovered then moan. he went to a different spplier i checked the wood he delivered that day it was wet and green. he did not come back but if he did it be double what e was charged for wood. rest of customers chuffed with wood we supply. but for what we get and time it takes to do. i sometimes think is it worth doing. but two buy two loads every 3 weeks and one all year round so its a bit extra.

Insist on proving your moisture level to a customer especially a new one BEFORE you tip, record that MC on the customers point of sale document. You also need ammo from stove manufacturers about maximum recommended moisture levels, usually this is 18% but some at the upper end of the market want 16%.

I have 2 lengths in hard and one in soft, take it or leave it.

If you are supplying good logs legally sourced then dont let it get to you.

On a slight tangent; my sheeting blew off my stack at home and I have been amazed at how the logs have absorbed water.

I supply all hard wood, have the odd awkward Customer that wants soft wood but very very few....sell 1.25m3 for £95 haven't had a single complaint about money or quality am I to cheap?

I would say yes but it depends on your area to make good money it's got to be £100 a cube in our area it's around £110 a cube or 65 a builders bag.

Hmmm that's interesting! Might have to go up a bit. Trouble is people just want to know how much a load is not how big a load is. Two other local lads sell £65 and £80 a load but I'm still selling loads and taking there customers so maybe I should test the water with an increase

I do my increase in Nov before the rush starts. There will always be the lads doing it for 65 80 but they will usually run out and the proper firewood merchants will get really busy. It might not happen until early February this year but it will happen.

Next year I'll probably add on what ever cord goes up by as I want to double the amount we did this year if I can find the dam cord might have to do more softwood.

I'm lucky enough to source my wood for free so in on a nice little number. I'll be honest this is my first proper year and I've sold out at 100 loads! Never expected it to be so good first year, will try to double at least next year. Might go up to £100 a load and see what happens

I would stick at £95 and reduce the size of the load. Or increase the size of the trailer and charge £125.00 Breaking the £100 barrier will be difficult.
