Car tax

What would you have done if they'd issued £25 fixed penalty fine ?

Easier to pay and move on, even if unjust.........

And bobbies have "solved" another crime, good for crime figures too.......

If they issue they can only do it when you agree, otherwise tell them you will see them in court.

Fixed penalties are good if you are bang to rights and you know it, saves you time and money and the courts time.

Hi all,

Once again the clowns in downing st work out a way to shaft joe public as the seller would loose the latter half of the months tax & the buyer would pay for the first part of the month. I can imagine a lot of sales taking part at midnight end of month.

In France its slightly different, duty is paid when a vehicle is registered but there is no vehicle excise duty annually

There are two stickers in the screen, one for CT which is same as MOT & one for insurance, but its the car thats insured as opposed to the person who drives it, which makes sense to me.

From what i was told yesterday its so the new owner has to insure it straight away to be able to get it taxed. But if the new owner dosnt have to display a tax disc im pretty sure it wont be insured or taxed straight away, so i assume from october there will be lots more un taxed and un insured cars driving around. The sweetener for this scheme is that you can pay for your tax monthly by direct debit.

I don't wish to sound sceptical but under what grounds were you searched? For an officer to conduct a stop search there have to be grounds for that i.e you were seen waving a knife around in public and that was reported to the police by someone who was concerned that you had a knife with you in a public place and was fearfull enough to call 999!!

I am one of those officers you hold in such contempt and I am a fan of kebebs yet I have never felt the urdge to search anyone in the que at the kebeb shop when I get my friday night doner!!

However if someone reported seeing a bloke at the kebab shop with a knife I would attend and yes I would search said man and if he had a lock knife on him and he was an arse I would nick him, if however he was not an arse and explained to me in a reasonable fashion that he was a farmer who was still at work but had stopped for tea and was carrying the knife as his work involved its regular use then I would have given him some words of advice reference not having it on display or waving it around in public and that would be that, so you being charged would indicate you were quite possibly being an arse in the first place and then spoke to the coppers like they were in the wrong for being there when in actual fact they were just doing the job they are employed to!! just think how many people are injured by people who routinely carry knives each year and think its acceptable!!

Rant over!!

you are obviously better than the dorset police then! I don't trust them an inch. im a friendly guy that gets on with every one. the night I got done I was driving back from bridport through Dorchester and parked the work van in the car park(instead of on the yellows like every one els) about 100yrds away got out the car and walk to the takeaway, went in, ordered, happy chatting with the owner when the to cops came in behind me, I turned nodded and said hi same as I would to anyone then they said "what you been up to" I explained that I had just finished on one farm and was heading to the next and that's why I was in work cloths and dirty. also explained that I was getting food on the way back to the farm as I didn't have time to stop for breaks. they then asked if I had anything on me that I shouldn't and I politely and freely told them I had my work pen knife in my pocket and all hell let loos! shouting put your hands on the counter and so on witch I did freely and with no resistance what so ever. the way they acted you would have thought I told them I had a bomb on me! then they asked what pocket it was in so I said "this one" and pointed at what pocket it was and as I went to point they started shouting and getting very over agresive again then one of them took the knife out of my pocket and read me the your under arrest stuff. then went and searched the work van but there was nothing in there. there reasone for stopping me was that I was "acting suspicious" . at no point was I anything but polite and offered no resistance what so ever and there statements in court were at best fictional! like I said up till that point I thought the police were there to help but from that point on I do not trust a single one of them. yeh there are good ones but im not willing to take the chance so decide not to trust any of them

BACK to the tax... I'm not entirely against the idea. Always asking about how much tax is left when buying a car shouldn't be a factor. Buying tax should be the responsibility of the owner, and part of the process of buying a car. You can do it all online, so its not difficult. If you are that worried about losing part of a month, try to time the sale appropriately.

Interestingly I have also heard that cars will have to be insured by law unless they are SORN'd. That means even if you aren't using it, if its registered and taxed it has to be insured!

I presume then you had no legal advice following arrest because IMO there is no way you should have been charged!

What happened at court?

yes had very good legal advice. also put in complaints about the 2x officers and while doing so found out that the inspector at the time was as crooked as the 2x cops. went in to put in my complaint and he took me to one side and basically tried to make me feel sorry for the 2xcops and was trying to get me to drop my complaint when I refused to he made it clear my life would be made hell by them if i didn't drop it. when i refused to drop it he filled in the forms and said they would get sent to the appropriate places and i asked how i could check that they had recived them and he said "why don't you trust me" to that i replied no not after what you have just told me. in the end i ended up going over his head and getting the forms processed properly. i had 2-3 years of hell after that from the police! as i said there are some good ones but there are also some rite w$%&£%s
