As Capel is upon us, and many of us will have the occasion to meet, I would like to take this opportunity to introduce...

 

The Tree Guild

 

 

Our motivations are simply,

 

To create an inclusive Professional trade body focused on the promotion & support of professional tree related works.

 

To be the voice of its member body.

 

Who will assist where ever possible the forward development of members.

 

Our Aims are,

 

To enhance confidence in the consistent work practises and service provided by guild members to their clients.

 

To assist in representing & promoting the voice of its membership to government or other policy bodies or think tanks involved in the forward development of related issues, to offer advice or practical guidance to the membership to enhance their skill and administration base, through continued professional development.

 

We understand that all commercial ventures have to commence somewhere, we therefore do not expect members to have all the bells & whistles.

We however do require a professional commitment to the services supplied.

Our contractor approval criteria is based around a common sense approach & the ability to demonstrate compliance with good working practise & current legislation, as per the Guild criteria, which would give recognition of your company with a progression path to full accreditation.

 

We intend to forge affiliations with other bodies who share in our aspirations.

what will its focus be? will it be like the AA or actually focus on standard /quality of work produced?

will it be for individuals or companys? (i like the idea of individuals, as an approved company needs to only have one decent climber for the whole company to be approved including dangerous dave and stupid simon)

The idea is to be from grass roots up private personal members (who may or may not work but may wish to support the scheme) including students

 

The individual criteria is based on recognition of a set skill criteria.( including insurances as may be applicable ) whether that is a self employed subbie climber or groundie. in that way a certificate can be a route to advertise your professional approach to other like minded potential employers.

who can employ sub contract services with confidence to match or enhance their own company skill base. though this is not encouraged as a long term ie permanent subbies rather more to meet shortages in a skills requirement.

 

Then the company which can be from, the self employed men & a van to the medium or larger tree company.

We know that the size of a company does not directly correlate into the quality of the services it may provide. in that way we do not wish to exclude anyone who is professional in their approach & committed to safe professional tree works.

We all have to start somewhere, we simply wish to encourage a development toward a criteria many aspire too, whilst still giving due recognition for the efforts made thus far, however we are aware that many clients do not require a bells & whisltes approach & that too is fine a member will not be forced t oseek full accredition if their business profile doesnt need it. But they must remain fit to trade as per the recognised criteria

 

Far too many very good tree practioneers do not have a route to express their views in places & events that directly affect the industry.

We hope to dispel that practice for a more rounded over view from within the industry.

 

Throughout all sectors of industry it is often the case that the voice of the smaller entrepreneur / business are not as well heard by those who may wish to take heed of a wider consensus. larger blue chip companies often speak loudest due to their commercial position. Yet the comments of the less well represented maybe equally as valid.

This sounds like a good idea and anything would be better than the AA who are rubbish. They provide their members with nothing but self obsessed crap, I believe its time for a change!
