Spuds Porting and Tuning Thread

Just because a saw revs to a certain level, bears little in regards to the way the saw pulls in the cut.

 

I have had some saws with issues hit 15,500 at WOT but as soon as you hit the wood - zero power!

 

Cutting holes in a saws exhaust revving at full speed sounds a little risky, even in my books:001_rolleyes::lol:

Bah, wimps! What could possibly go wrong whilst drilling a muffler on a saw running WOT, with or without a bar and chain, whilst holding a tachometer...

 

Very good, you forgot the sarcastic smiley. Could always place bar in a vice to carry out said task. As established now though, pointless task, pointless post by myself. Clearly displaying my non-mechanical mind.

 

What does WOT stand for to?

FGS, LMAO, so many different words have gone through head trying to work that out today.

 

Spud, probably old ground, but I have a km130r, it was bogging down under rev, had new breather kit, tank vent, carb service, valve clearance, brass pipe valve replacement, everything. Cost a fortune, and always same after week o two, would go back to being same. Use hp ultra green mix oil btw.

 

I was going to scrap it as its certainly had its value for money now, nearly eight year old. Thought I'd try doing what I thought was porting, and drilled one hole in exhaust 4mm. Slight tweak carb, hasn't missed beat nearly 18 mths. Any ideas what why etc?

 

Also found same with old Makita hedge cutter that was struggling, works fine now.

Probably coked up inside, the extra outlets help prevent that I've found.

But if you clamp the bar (or remove it) how will you see the power increase? It's got to be cutting a log, or on a dyno!

 

It wouldn't be a pointless task, you just require too many arms.

 

As a rule of thumb, we go for 80% of the exhaust port, although my 357 is well over 100%, but I suppose the baffle causes a bit of back pressure, likewise with my 560 (which doubles as a leaf blower now).

If anyone is interested in my Mastermind ported 044 with PNW wrap and high output oiler and high output clutch cover, let me know. I got a lot of stuff going on on the farm here, and I am going to need some cash soon. She needs a new carb, but is otherwise in great condition, pushing over 210 psi as is.
