fs100 vibration.

I have a stihl fs100 long reach hedge cutter. But recentley it seems there is more and more vibrations in the handle than usual. The hedge cutter head is fine which is normally what goes, when the bearings start to get worn and break up. So i'm not sure what it could be. I don't want to start pulling it apart before i have a few ideas as to what could be the cause of the vibrations.

So anyone got any ideas?

It will probably be the drive shaft needs cleaning and re-greasing once it gets sticky it will cause vibrations. Take the head off and pull the shaft out, give it a good clean re-grease and slide it back in. It's really easy and should take no more than 5 mins. :001_smile:

Done that! and i put in a new shaft incase the old one was worn! :001_rolleyes:

Could it be a bearing going somewhere?

I would firstly check with a brushcutter gearbox and blade on, if the vibe is still there then its in the shaft or clutch.

 

Check that the drive tube is perfectly straight.

 

The shaft bearings take the form of a full length extruded liner, its not likely to be worn, but if it is it would allow the shaft to whip and set up a vibration.

 

If thats ok then check the clutch drum and bearing. If the clutch bearing has siezed it will have melted its housing and will vibrate like mad.

 

If its not any of this then chuck it over the hedge and buy a Tanaka:biggrin:
