Hi All,

Its time for me to think about buying a suitable vehicle. Budget wise anywhere from 10-20K. This will be my first arb vehicle so i have no real issues or preference at this stage other than a tipper capability? Your comments would be welcomed!!

Thanks

There are many options available out there , especially In your price range .

To narrow it down a bit you need to think about what features you want?

4x4

Single or crew cab

Tool boxes

Load capacity....

Hi abs

The list carries on.... I would personally get a 4x4 tipper of some sort , that way you are more versatile with the work you can undertake and where you can go ... However normally they don't have the capacity of day a transit tipper with chip box....

Thanks, am hearing mixed reviews about a defender tippers mainly that they break down, no offence to defender owners out there!!! But having said that i was thinking that a 4x4 defender may be a good choice.

I am a one man band at the moment but expect to grow in the mi-term, so may be a crew cab would be good.

What about additional features such as winch, lift capability or would that be over kill at this stage for me?

Thanks all

If most of your work is fairly local, you're not too big, (i.e. <6' tall) and you have reasonable breakdown cover a land rover should do.

They're uncomfortable, wallow a lot with a load of chip on and really don't go that many places other 4wd go.

I'd get a hilux with a tipper. Even the Ford Rangers seem ok. Much nicer to drive too.

The challenge is that a Land Rover fits the image and whether you have one new or 20 years old, most folk won't notice the difference.

Turn up in a new Hilux and some will think you're a good professional outfit, others will think you get paid too much. Get an older one and the reverse may be true.

But defenders have a heavier towing capacity.

Landrover should be alright as you will be driver and treat it well. I've got a single cab not a lot of good if you got kit to keep dry Nene overland did a extra cab may be worth a look.

Have a good topper body fitted I have seen some that are no better than a card board box in there construction.

Well, like any vehicle they do break down but a lot of the people shouting loudest about it are the ones that have taken a ten year old vehicle and expect it to work like a new one.

They tend also not to posses a grease gun or any mechanical sympathy
