Why do you have to keep the machine in the van overnight? If it's worth anything to you it's also worth stealing. Thieves do rely on us "leaving stuff in vans" it's just so easy for them. IMO the more secure you make the van, the more of a temptation it makes it, all they have to do is drive it away and work on it. Truckers leave doors open to show there is nothing nick able on board.

i'm moving from a site in north norfolk to a site in south norfolk and i live in a small terraced house in norwich so in terms of efficiency it is better for me to pack up from one site and then come home and be able to go to the next site in the morning

I had a Nissan vanette, that high security dead locks on it, which i got 2nd hand off an arms dealer, these were just on the back doors as there was a bulkhead.

Speak to a few different locksmiths who have experience of high security vehicle locks.

Get a locking cage welded up to fit inside the back of the van for your tools and reed cutter to fit inside and bolt it all down to the van floor, like the ones in police dog vans. I made some weldmesh window guards for brother in laws van when he kept getting the rear window seals cut and his Stihl saws pinched.

a quick search and i found this... [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHJ-xFOpeyI]VSS - Van Security Solutions Recommends the Ultimate Slam Lock - YouTube[/ame]

it looks safe enough but i would not like the repair bill from them trying to get in

also there are much bigger versions of simillar locks like this...they are even harder to break, you see them on the back of some delivery vans... its like a huge metal plate that surrounds a big round padlock, they are also very secure and can be fitted to sliding doors too :thumbup1: i just cant seem to find them right now but will keep eyes open..
