Hi just had an email from the wife, took the pick up out for a run and said its running louder than normal, went to a garage, to be told the catalytic converter had been sliced off. Is nothing safe anymore, its all the more frustrating as i am overseas at the moment so gonna pay over the odds for something i can fix myself.

 

Just feeling angry, small fry compared to be cleaned out but just be warned.

 

This happened in the Swindon area if it helps anyone else just be vigilant.

 

The garage said there is a spate of it happening lately.

This is getting very common for the metal that's in them.

 

Now you have to work out if it's going to be cheaper to do an ins claim or get it fixed yourself.

A couple of nights ago my Dad's lock-up was broken into again, almost exactly a year after the first time. Luckily he doesn't keep any valuable tools in there any more but last time they visited it was rife all around cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire.

Keep a close eye on your tools.

Fit a plain piece of pipe . Runs better with out the cat . At the same time blank off the egr valve as well and you will have a more efficient running engine ....

As said, it's now common Mercedes get done the most as it's a poor design and access is easy, the scumbags are getting about £100 scrap value for the cats but it's cost us best part of £1000 to put right!

Get rid of the cat if it's a diesel. Put a straight replacement pipe in and get the ecu programmed if it needs it, it will be cheaper in the long run.

The MD at GreenMech had the full size spare nicked out of the underneath of his Disco which is going to cost him a wedge to replace. He doesn't even know when it went either!
