Just wondering if anyone on here has had this problem before and could point me in the right direction.

basically the tail lights don't come on when I turn the lights on but the brake lights still work?? I have read elsewhere that it might have something to do with the towing electrics but I've got no idea where to start? any help would be appreciated.

Use a piece of wire and run a new earth from the earth points. Sounds simple but I have been caught out by a worn or bad earth plenty of times. Spend ages chasing wires and checking them.

My first point. That and a good voltmeter.

The earth track does corrode and cause problems but if it were a bad earth you would be getting the classic transit discotheque lights symptom as the voltage tries to earth through the other bulbs.

Check the bulbs, then the fuse, then the switch.

When i bought it from the firm on tesr drive you put indicator on and it just illuminated once then stayed on.... so the will have done the relay but maybe put a 2nd hand knackered one on?

Or the wrong one, the pin pattern is common but the coil resistance varies, some units are designed to run 6 bulbs.

If you took one out of a discovery and fitted it to a transit you would get exactly what you have going on.
