SRT With DRT Gear question

Recommended Posts

Bit long winded but...

There are a handful of mechanical devices to climb on like the lock jack spiderjack zig zag etc. only rated for DRT

What is stopping say a 60kg climber using these devices SRT without a rope wrench?

As opposed to a 120kg climber using them DRT with a pulley saver installed?

Problems being the way the device is loaded?

Gripping to tight ?

they function better if they are used ddrt, I'm sure you could descend on any of the said devices but they would not perform to a workable standard.

i know that the spiderjack and lockjack are allowed to be used ddrt without a friction device when performing a rescue in competitions thats two peoples weight on one device.

Certain death:001_tongue:

They're not designed nor tested for srt use. The lockjack and spiderjack need the additional attachment to allow smooth function. Having said that, I've tried the LJ,SJ, ZZ1 and just a hitch on srt on their own and they all function to a certain extent, though I'd strongly advise not trying to use them!

If you want a compact, single device SRT system, get a Hitchiker or a Unicender mate, you can even get a uni over there without everyone thinking you're some kind of voodoo death-defying nutjob:001_smile:
