Anyone know which model Tirfor I have acquired today? :confused1: And what wire rope I need?

Would like to get my hands on an instruction manual too

My immediate guess would be TU 16, in which case it needs an 11.5mm wire rope. But measure it up, and compare to the models here: Tirfor, T508, T515, T532, TU8, TU16, TU32 Winches, Repair, Tirfor Hire

More specs and manuals for Tirfor's can be found here: http://www.tractel.com/en/series.php?id_serie=47

Yep should have a handle. Got one in my shed somewhere. Easy enough to make up though. Got a roll of 10mm wire (ish) with it but hasn't got an eyelet on the end, or a chamfered section for working through the winch :-(

Tirfor cable has its own lay - standard wire rope doesn't grip properly in the jaws.

Tractel can still supply all the parts for any model (I have a late 1960s 5 ton model which needed various new bits). They can be idiosyncratic to deal with, phone works best, but Speedy hire shops are agents and can get the parts in, although there is a fairly significant minimum order charge.

If you need a new cable I think it was j w o'pray in Hull that mine for the TU16 was from was around half the price of a new genuine one and came with the correct cable lay for the winch to grip spliced eye on 1 end and fused taper on the other and certificate sure it was only around £40 for a 10 mtr
