I have a Tirfor Tu16 and a lugall.

IMHO: I had a Jet style winch it was five ton and was not a patch on the smaller Tirfor (1.6t lift/3.2t pull)

The TU16 can be bought for £100 and is a very safe bet. Light enough to carry strong enough to pull some big stuff over safely.

The 'tirfor like' winches are 'okay' but not something that's advised. The smaller ones may he better. The 5 ton one took ages to winch in and weighed what it could pull.

Tifor £ for £ is the way forward..

They do seems the business, used one a couple of times and was impressed.

First price new on a TU16 i found was about £700! Still wading through the google search.

Thanks, but to be fair, with the strains on the wire Id rather it be checked. Seen very heavy gauge wire rope part when in the Navy, very scary...

Eah? I said it did then recommended a supplier who'll supply a winch with a cert.... I don't understand?

I picked up a little lug-all at an auction - its been a godsend and is light to carry around takes up a lot less space than a tirfor (which we also have) but obviously is intended for lighter use.

Horses for courses but for a little pull in the right direction they are hard to beat
