Dug just short of 6,000 holes last winter for tree planting with a Bulldog "rabbiting" spade and doubt very much if anything else would have done it as well and been as robust.

Just be aware they've different grades of stuff, I've only ever bought their premier range.

I've got secaturs & loppers by Wolf, they are excelent. Wicks have a very good quality basic range, i have the hoe(love a cheap ho'...)& rake, very good for the money, £4 for the hoe £8 for the rake.

My shovel was dads 30+yrs old, my spade & fork i got as wedding presents !, 31yrs ago, they are both boots branded.

Bulldog for spades and forks, i`ve got a fiskars lopper. Shovels, a long handled arrowhead is a great tool.Shorter ones, i`d get a builders shovel.Metal right through and robust.Cant think of brands fer these offhand as they`re at the yard, but the long handle arrowhead saves yer back if you need to shift a lot of material.

felco for secateurs

silky for hand saws

for the rest it not easy, and it depends on a lot of factors, eg

your soil type,

what height you are,

type of jobs you doing,

what you growing,

rain fall

and I would recommend old tools as they have been worn in, and they are often cheaper and better made unless you are willing to spend a lot of money, as good quality is hard to get

for example the last spade I got was a tree planting Treaded Tree Planting Spear | Premier Spades | Spades | Bulldog Tools

for digging in hard ground with a lot of stones, for the likes of gate posts, as it narrow point lets you get access and good penetration

i am thing of getting some of these hoes as they are good Glaser Oscillating hoe no. 404
