Hi all,

I am panicking a bit about next week, I start on Monday.

I have read and re-read the assessment criteria and it's sinking in. But is it enough?

I've got a mate who said he did a bit of reading before it and he was fine but I am a bit uncertain?

Also is any of the assessment a written test? I ask this because I am crap when it comes to putting brain to paper.. always have been better when it's practical assessments.

Cheers

Tbh if your examiner is of a decent calibre then they'll help and encourage along the way their job isn't to find fault it's to asses competence and if seen lads majorly screw up on felling cuts etc but as long as they could explain how/why they buggered it up that's usually ok

You are allowed to make a few mistakes on your assessment, so long as you are working in a safe mannor. Your assessor will ask you about it, and what you have done wrong. So long as you can correct your mistakes you will be fine.

Treat the whole thing as another lesson. Remember that everybody makes mistakes on there assessment, and your assessor will be aware of this. Just ask him or her how many mistakes they made.

The bit that you won't get told when training is that the assessment is just that not a black/white pass or fail test and the assessor if they are any hood will be able to coax the answers out of you

When I did mine 2 of us where assessed together and the things we where asked came from both of us with help from the assessor

They should be able to test your knowledge even if your nervous with questions that help lead you to the answer without spelling it out for you

And as others have said even if you make a mistake as long as you know what it was and can explain what should have happened etc you should be ok

The main thing is dont rush, keep calm and be safe

remember its an assessment of your competence not excellence, no written aspects,

but there is quite a bit to memorise surrounding your underpinning knowledge of what your doing, why you work the way you do & the checks you should make prior too and during any process along with a correct method & safe working practices...
