That’s exactly it, my 3 tonner is usually doing work that a 5-8 tonner should be doing.

I’m also fed up hitching trailers, strapping things down, lots of faffing about , it’s all time.

I’ve always loved 3cx’s but hated the levers but this 1 is really nice to operate on the armrests and such better visibility out the back.

My back is suffering rocking about all day in the 3 toner , hopefully this should make life better.

Have fun and let it make a good living what's best to buy first been looking at the 3cx and also the 8026 what's the best option in your personal opinion

Depends on your work, their uses will overlap each other but 2 very different machines.

Although my CAT was £22.5 k 5 years ago, I’ve had 2 trailers in that time to carry it and easy the same again in towing vehicles cost, wear and tear and a lot of fuel.

My main work is groundwork drainage and landscaping but I'm wanting to get into land clearances and forestry if possible so I got a quote on a jcb 8026 for 25k but them 3cx are roughly same price second hand so it's which would do the job better tbh I hate hiring machinery as its dead money

Stephen it’s great to see someone giving the Backhoe another shot.

I’m from the era when literally everything was done with these, travelling to sites often fair distances and undertaking whatever tasks were thrown at you.

Many underestimate now the power and reach in a Backhoe, plus once mastered the ability of the front end to do a days work for an 8 tonner in a couple of hours.

Contentious maybe, but the reason they fell out of favour is the Operators mainly retired or jumped onto 360’s to avoid being the site wheelbarrow, and younger guys coming in jumped straight into the much easier Mini or Midi 360’s appearing everywhere, turning their back on the much harder to master Backhoe.

Servo levers on the Backhoe brought about some relief for these guys, but back in the day you could spot them a mile off, that front bucket was only ever used to carry stuff or prop the machine up.

Our ridiculous situation that forces guys to tow trailers with pickups etc absolutely on their knees, just to get around all the hassle involved in 7.5 tonners is crazy.

I predict as more of the small Wheeled 360’s come through from the smart motorway builds etc, some will give these a go with floatation tyres as an alternative.

I’ve actually been looking at the Backhoe again myself. Fitting a set of Michelin floatation tyres, Front quick hitch and a basic Tiltrotator setup would unleash a huge amount more potential from one and no transportation hassles.

I know it’s not the correct route, but this is an exceptional machine that’s coming up from the very best of homes for a genuine reason and I’m certain it’s a setup that quite a few here could make full use of.

The main point is this has a Full Control System on the Engcon so will run a Grab correctly with the ability to Tilt/Rotate and Grab at the same time with no changeover required.

Kubota U48-4

2017 with only 780hrs.

Engcon Ec05 with SVAB Controls

He has an absolute field full of attachments and the possibility of switching it to Steel Tracks if required.

He’s looking around 35k.
