Yes the Rotator has to be beefier to cope with the forces and it's hard to get the power and hold right unless you go full Tiltrotator with worm gear, which is another story, but more and more good solutions available now.

It's simply a case of having an extra dimension available, you wouldn't want to work with your wrist broken and hand flopping about, nor does an excavator.

Are fixed grabs not harder on the rotator? Ie you need a higher capacity rotator if fixed?

It's for a fixed grab or much beefier as they take alot more abuse than a hanging one and the whole set up is dearer on a 3t your looking at £3k as opposed to £1200 but it's worth every penny you can manipulate or pick up anything however you want with the extra dimension the fixed set up gives.

Anyone have any experience of Takeuchi TB230 or JCB 8026 ?

I have a TB230, very impressed with it. Very powerful and very fast. Also find it quite stable too, dont really use the blade so much.

Not been too impressed with JCB mini digger offerings to be honest.

Highly recommend the TB230 though.

The best things about fixed grabs is being able to turn brash vertically in tight spots for stacking or chipping,

Also you can really ram it into brash heaps and grab stuff vertically and mallipulate branches better.

The intermercato has loads of power too for breaking forks ready for the chipper.

I did break my first rotator
