Quoting work for friends (or friends of friends)

When doing jobs for mates(good mates not mates of mates of mates!) or family I just price it up as normal then knock about 20% off, I aint bothered about making profit on them and at least my costs are covered.

 

Unless its like a half hour job then just do it for free when in the area.

 

It can be awkward though, you dont want them to think you are ripping them off and they dont want you doing it for too cheap and making a loss.

 

I always say that I would be more than happy if they wanted to try and get a cheaper price or use someone else, no pressure on both of you then.

Never do a discounted or cheap jobs for friends or family. Either give them your normal going rate, and tell them thats what it is, or do it for free.

 

Either way, they feel like they paid fair and square for it, or owe you a favour back at some time. They can still get other quotes!

 

Why should you do a cheap job for someone, putting off a full paying job, when they will still feel like they paid for it!

Mmm, does look a bit hard reading it back Dean, but i would rather do a job for mate for nothing, then one day they should be keen enough to return the compliment.

You Run a business not a charity. thats how i see it. if its for a direct friend. then as long as the cover all expensies and give a little extra.

Tough one especially for really close mates, 'cos you've normally got to pay a groundie at least.

 

Think it's best to quote your normal price.

 

At least they know they'll get a decent job, not ripped off and a decent tidy up. If they don't like your price, move on.
