Spark arrestor mesh?

Hi

I just bought a t540xp and read the instruction booklet (which goes totally against the grain!)

 

It says the spark arrestor mesh must be cleaned regularly, I've never done this.

It also says the mesh must ALWAYS be in place.

 

I'm sure I've heard about people removing the mesh for some reason.

How important is this mesh?

The mesh is for hot dry country's where a spark can cause fire... So i hear... taken mine off the 560xp as I hear it'll cause starting issues after a while.... mate of mine removed his from 550xp and has had warranty work done since with no issues from dealer about it.. can't say I know for sure about the t540xp but I'm getting mine soon and I'll be taking it off unless someone here gives Mr a good reason not to.. hope this helps:thumbup:

Took mine off my 560 as soon as I got it. As far as I know it is to stop hot carbon or sparks starting a fire if you are somewhere very dry. If it were me I'd take it out, and set it somewhere incase you ever have a warranty issue. Might lead to slightly improved exhaust flow.

As others have said, it is for arrid countries where there is a fear that hot carbon will exit the muffler and ignite bracken/grass etc.

 

Over time, the gauze can get blocked with carbon so many people remove the gauze with no ill effect due to our wet country. It will restrict the flow of gasses slightly and I personally, remove the things!

Thats about right Steve, but this country can get pretty dry too, especially on the moors, mountains and forests. So, in these area it might be best to leave them in.
