Great Idea, great project. The movers a 30hp is it? Should be ideal.

If the pressure isn't suitable - could you use one of the hydraulic motors (gang cutters) to turn the original pto pump that you removed from the log splitter instead? (Not sure how the speed can be regulated, presuming the cutters on the mower turned at 1000's(?) of rpm and you only need about 540 for the job.

Sorry never saw this post..

I think the engine is only a 15-20 hp

Using the one of the motors to turn the original pump is quite feasible, I,d just have to connect it with pulleys and a belt to get the speed ratio correct.

Good idea as a back up plan..thanks

Erm,

Rowan, starting to sound like some sorta "perpetual motion" machine yer designing there!!

So thats a diesel Kubota engine driving a hydraulic pump to drive a hydraulic motor to drive a PTO stub, which in turn drives a hydraulic pump, to pressure the ram.

A kinda "round the houses" way of achieving the goal.

The oil will likely get all confuzzled.

ie

instead of

Engine drives pump drives splitter ram

Bit like selecting super low on the tractor, the drive goes through a lot of hers and cogs, but imagine the torque :001_smile:
