Boss put us all on standby for emergency callout but looking at Metoffice again this morning doesnt look like we're getting any strong enough wind this way to do much, so we'll see

On call and expecting to be a busy bee, later... Getting prepared with food coffee and water. Spent a fortune on junk food and snacks last time I was out for 10hrs of craziness ... All good fun though ... Hope all goes well for you boys (and girls) and there no major traumas or calamities to deal with, that stuff stays with you....

We are used to power cuts, a good tip is to tape light sticks to your door handles in case the power goes out! Oh and Misses Bear says put one on the toilet to stop us from missing the pot in the dark!

Ive had the misfortune to give guidance and advice following server accidents that happened doig emergence call outs..........

 

Just remember if the tree is swinging arround in the wind, threatening the house, the insurace will cover a stay in a hotel... so dont feel you have to climb a tree in a gail.

 

the vast majority of roads can be closed untill the wind subsides without the normal notice, so you dont have to go aloft in a tree in hte wind.....

 

and if you are felling the tree because its dangerouse as its loose in hte ground... is it safe to climbe a dangerouse treee.......????

 

I await the critisum and moans but its a tree, and there is insurance, and we are but humans, and break very easily, and the safest thing is make the site safe and let the wind go

Well said.. Plus don't let external pressures cloud your judgement ... Wether this is the Client, the emergency services, your boss on the phone from his cosy bed... Your the professional on site . It's your call when you get there , you will be calling the shots.. Stay strong and keep your team safe... Insurance will pay for property damage. That's cheaper than a life insurance pay out!!!

Likes- rushing about in the chaos, clearing roads and not overly concerned about tidy up as theres plenty more to get on with.

 

Dislikes- the next month of calls from people who are worried because their "tree was blowing about the other night", blown over? "No", damaged limbs? "No, think it might be top heavy". Welcome to nature public, its what trees do in wind

Couple of rules to 'live' by in any rescue situation:

1. Life before property

2. Ensure your own safety first. If you can't look after yourself, you can't look after the casualty/victim/situation.

 

Whether the last applies to people in fire control or the courageous souls of sea rescue... well, you would have to ask them individually after the event. They go in and out, so we can get out and go home.
