I like the extra ear protection that you get from muffs i.e. from scratches etc. Also nice in the cold. I do not like the thought of something stuffed in my ear day after day. Horses for courses I guess.

I will use plugs when strimming/hedge cutting but prefer the muffs when doing tree work as it's only short amounts of time I need the cover for. When spending a day on the strimmer I use muffs and In ear headphones. Good quality headphones will block out some noise and the music keeps me sane!

 

Might try some of those Howard leights. Seem like they do a good job. I use the laser lite foam plugs and have Been pleased with them. Come in seperate packets and are cheap enough.

I have my iPod on while I'm working on less technical jobs along with Peltor H10 ear muffs. Can't hear a thing 😄 and no, the music isn't turned up that loud it's damaging my hearing. We get regular hearing tests and my hearing still remains pretty damn good for my age. Shouldn't mind some decent ear plugs to drown out the bass from the neighbours when they decide to chuck a party though. Suggestions for good disposables welcome.

Haha, usually it's sports talkback radio. The conversation seems to make my brain tick a little more. I've had the same play list on my iPod for about 6 months now but because I'm not really listening most of the time I don't get bored with it. It's just nice to have something going on in the back ground other than the noise of chainsaws and chippers. The fact that I'm not bored with the same 300 odd songs shows that I am actually concentrating on what I'm doing.

Only downside to the ear plugs is cold ears in the winter and getting whipped on the ears by twigs

I wear a hat under my hardhat which pulls down over the tops of my ears....but yes the twigs hurt like hell

I use ear plugs from a company called PROSHOCK. They take a silcone plant of your ear and make a plug that fits. I use them for chainsaw and log processing and shooting, the best thing is that you don't realise they are in.

Nice, even better than having a hat on or a hood up with ear defenders as you get less protection.

I like the idea of plugs will have to give them a go at some point, I like the minimalist side to it all + it's one less thing on my helmet to fall off and break!
