I used a dragonfly for a few years and climbed everyday with a 346xp hanging off that small loop in question and it never failed. Can't remember dropping the saw on it but I'm sure it prob happened a few times and it never failed!

There is a bit of an issue connecting a saw to the side D rings, they are a structural part of the harness and if your saw pinches in the cut you could find yourself with a substantial lump of wood hanging off your harness, tope and anchor point.

The tool attachment points are designed to give up before the rest of the system without compromising the harness

It wont be as much of an issue with a top handled saw as they have a break away built in, or if you use a lanyard with a built in break away but the danger increases with larger saws which don't have a built in breakaway.

The new treemotion is now rated for climbing on the 'tool' attachment point isn't it.

I was actually thinking about this the other day cos I'm going to need a new one soon but I'd rather be able to buy the cheaper older one. I have no intention of using the tool attach point for my lifeline.

I think we should leave the clipping in and "tool" attachment just there :laugh1::laugh1:

The loop is designed for the carabiner of your saw strop to be clipped to. I then have a petzl caritool thing to clip the saw to up high. The reason to clip to the little loop is that this will form the weakest part of the set up if your saw goes with timber when cutting. If you clip to the D ring or other place the weakest part will be questionable - it would hurt put it that way. That's loop is designed specifically for hanging a saw off.
