NPTC certs changed?

Just been on the NPTC website for the first time in about 3 years, to print a UA2.3 refresher schedule! What the hell is going on? It's full of strange numbers and certificates for all sorts of nonsence - took me about 40 mins to actually find the schedule i needed!

 

Are these numbers the future of Arb training? Very confusing!!!

Yes there have been some changes. Most of the content was updated, but similar to the previous assessments. They no longer call them CS units, but now divided into Level 2 and 3 Forestry and Arb with a qualification no, and a very long title for each.

This means that Lantra and other bodies are also offering the same qualification, not just City and Guilds...calling them License to Practise, rather than certificates of competence.

 

Any old units you hold are still valid. Just any new assessments you wish to take would need to be done on this new system.

Are they seriously calling CoCs "Licences to practice" now?

I like the new name. In my experience many people that arrive with a new nptc certificate are far from competent.

A license to practice states just that. It doesn't imply they are good and it certainly does not say they are a tree surgeon.

 

(It really bets under my skin when folks come out of college holding a climb with saw cert and they believe they are a tree surgeon!)

I don't see it like that at all, Doctors "practice" medicine, but that does not suggest they are new to it.

 

I really dislike the term "licence" when used for saw tickets.

Do you get a competent card after so long in the same way as your CPCS cards do?
