That's a very bad cut.

Surely he was wearing no protection and must have slipped and dropped the saw pretty hard onto that part of his leg.

Possibly not even climbing at the time.

Wearing Cs is no replacement for proper technique tho.looks like the bar has gone into his leg and out the other side. I wonder if he was wearing any ppe (class A and boots)

I don't think they would have stopped it, but they might have reduced the damage. I'll never work without them though.

Thanks, suspected that was it, personally I couldn't wear all round either climbing or on the ground, they're just too unpleasant.
