I wish someone around me was selling at 35 quid, it'd save me a lot of work!

Trouble is if you go and offer to buy it the penny drops and they think you are taking the mick. Those logs are for their customers they would rather burn diesel dropping them all over the country side and cut your throat in the process. You cant educate pork.

With reg clients the price remains the same. When a new client rings and there is 6 inch of snow my price goes up unless they were recommended.

Good clients we have had for years get it £90 a cube new clients are £100 when winter comes it will be £120. I need a bigger yard so need to make the most i can this season.

Hmmm!

That answers a question for me

Allow £100/m3 for hardwood and multiply by the appropriate factor to put a value on my softwood.

Factor lying somewhere between 0.66 and 0.75

=£70.00/m3

hmmmm ah bin undercharging a trifle.(but were still in billet lengths/bundles)

If someone bought in the summer / autumn I used to offer a discount for any additional loads.Never heard from them before, Middle of winter price it through the roof. If you book a plane ticket last minute or book a hotel room u pay through the nose, supply and demand you have sat on your timber for 12 months now get your money back.

Have you done this in the past Simon? I really dont feel comfortable changing the price with the weather!

Yes Ben. I used to put my price up in the winter. I said above that a mate of mine bought 3 cube a few weeks ago for £180. The bloke he got them from is now advertising 3 cube (from the 1st of October) at £240. Twenty quid a cube more.

I like the idea of this but has any one actually done it and saved themselves the hard work logging?

Not bought anyone's stock out. When I used to do logs, if I ran out I would go to another fella and buy a load off him then sell them on at a profit. Some Saturdays I could do quite a few loads and nearly double my money.:thumbup1:

That's why I'm after a pickup at the moment.

I had thought of buying his stock but we have gained some customers who have tried his logs and said they would not burn !!

Understandably we have had some new customers who are very wary about buying a full load after trying his crap and have come and taken a few bags to try.

I like to think that we sell a quality product but at twice his price and I have only ever had one customer complain in about 10 years and we have between 400/500 customers some active all the time probably about 450 and around 50 that come and go.

The danger is buying in bags you can't see what you are getting
