My new mate!

Got given this block of wood from a woodworker friend of mine and he suggested it might be a nice one to carve. I think he had intended on turning it. Anyway its my first bash as rounded eyeballs rather than flat ones and a mouth instead of a tash/beard (which always much easier than attempting a mouth) I also started it with a mallet and some old chisels hence the crappy nose but i ended it with my trusty hand tools which i'm much happier using. If i ever get some decent chisels i'll probably have a go with the mallet again.

 

I literally have no clue what the wood is but it was nice to work.

 

Gonna try another tomorrow i think.

Wondered how long it would take you to put a photo of your chipper on here!

 

This one took quite a while to begin with as I was experimenting with a Mallet and chisels on the nose and subsequently lost enthusiasm when it didn't turn or how i wanted. I managed the mouth and eyes yesterday in a few hrs I reckon. Sore wrist this morning though.
