1. What a cheeky bugger! Talk about biting the hand that feeds you!
 2. Just had a delivery of some cedar Firewood and Ive hand carved some of it. Planning on turning another piece. smell is awesome and I think once I apply a finish I'm hoping the colour will pop even more. Was really nice to carve and the wood didn't tear once. I think I might save it all from the fire! So. .... long story short recommend holding cedar back if you get any

Hey Jon, Not sure if this sent properly yesterday. Apologies if it did.

Here's a link to the store i made recently:

There are some other photos of it in the gallery. I made it flat pack'able so fits together pretty simply. Its 1350mm tall and 850mm square at the base. Rough cut sawn timber with 50mm square uprights. Feather edge roof. Sold this one for £150. Went to fountain timber t'other day and they are selling them for £285 so figured might be a few quid to be made. Wadda ya think? Cheers

 5.
hey mate, just wondering if you or your wood customers might ever be in the market for some log stores? just put one together for a friend of mine and considering making some more. demand do you think? cheers

 6.
Hey there Mike, the laser you've got for your printing... whats its called if you don't mind me asking? Definitely not in the market some kit casting that much but i'd be interested to see how it works. Cheers, Steve

 7. Blimey! Have to raid the piggy bank for that one.
 8. Cheers guys, I think the others are printed onto wood where as these are burnt so take a little longer to do. Be good to find a machine to do it! :-)
 9. Yeah was pretty sure i'd seen them before. They look machine done so i wouldn't be able to meet the 40p mark. I do mine by hand so probably looking at about £1 each. Quite like the wooden cards as an idea though. I think if you hand one to a customer i think they'll be a little less likely to bin it like a traditional card.
 10. Think I've seen something similar on here or t'interweb before but figured I'd have a go at putting some business cards together for a friend's tree work business. I made it out of some old 5mm ply I had lying around. I burnt the lettering in with a soldering iron. Thought it'd be a nice touch if you're in the industry. Like I say I'm not claiming originality here but be interested to know what you think. Cheers
 11. Wondered how long it would take you to put a photo of your chipper on here! This one took quite a while to begin with as I was experimenting with a Mallet and chisels on the nose and subsequently lost enthusiasm when it didn't turn or how i wanted. I managed the mouth and eyes yesterday in a few hrs I reckon. Sore wrist this morning though.
 12. Ha fair shout! Thanks guys
 13. Got given this block of wood from a woodworker friend of mine and he suggested it might be a nice one to carve. I think he had intended on turning it. Anyway its my first bash as rounded eyeballs rather than flat ones and a mouth instead of a tash/beard (which always much easier than attempting a mouth) I also started it with a mallet and some old chisels hence the crappy nose but i ended it with my trusty hand tools which i'm much happier using. If i ever get some decent chisels i'll probably have a go with the mallet again. I literally have no clue what the wood is but it was nice to work. Gonna try another tomorrow i think.
 14. In that case mate, try to do as good a job as you can but don't beat yourself up about getting it spot on. i'm sure a walking stick with a few imperfections would mean just as much to your old man as long as you'd made it.
 15. Good to see you back James, how were the kites!?
 16. Hi there, there's people on here more qualified to answer than me but i've made some walking sticks and so will add my 10p worth. If you're taking the time to make a walking stick properly make sure its straight. you can add heat to a stick and manipulate it straight. either with a steamer or i've done it with a tea towel in the past. can take a while without some kind of jig but it is do'able. Then you'll need need a colar which forms the link between the stick and the handle. this sits around a short threaded bar. I use M8 bar for this. Pre drill the hole or it'll split your stick. Finish it off with a ferrule which will protect the end of your stick. You can get nice ones but i just stick rubber ones on. Not sure if that helps and like i said some of the other fellas on here probably have much more to add than what i can. Cheers S
 17. Always been carving sat on the floor and my back has been a bit special recently so figured i'd get around to sorting out a carving bench made from and old chair, some old 3x2 and some Hazel i had lying around. Need to work out a way to make the height adjustable as that back bit is just wedged in at the moment. Not sure how solid it'll be to use but i guess its better than being sat on the floor! Be great to know what you all think and if you've made your own? Cheers all
 18. Not sure of lathe books but I've got a nice new clarke lathe for sale. Let me know if it's of interest and I'll forward you some pictures and details.
 19. Yeah that handle is very nice. Is that just a beeswax finish?
 20. Thanks guys. Yes please James. I got that one so i could have a practice before starting on yours. Just let me know when you're about and i shall swing by. Cheers Steve
 21. Picked up a small burr from Treefest over the weekend and have had a bash at turning it. Love the unpredictable grain.
 22. I've seen a few places springing up recently in empty retail units. Could it be worth getting a decent selection of your work together and trying to do something like that? Pop up shops i think they are called. Pretty good exposure at least....
 23. Hi James, Sorry for the delay. I'm thinking a foot in diameter would be good for the lathe i've got access too. Although anything up to about 400mm should be ok. If you've got anything like that i'd be interested. I don't really know what burr's might cost so if you can make a suggestion that'd be great. Cheers Steve
