Looking for kernmaster

Say a large rope access company in Europe requires a certain type of rope for say a specialist access job, such a rope may not be available with the relevant Compliance within Europe, what would stop them from importing the required rope from outside Europe?

I'll expect some head shaking, hand wringing and some slagging but no creditable argument.

I fancied Platinum, but I've been told its bouncy! Now comes in 11.5. Cougar Blue or Velocity is recommended but not tried either! Thinking about using it in my Unicender or Rope Runner.

Cougar over velocity any day for the uni. I have 50m with a ring spliced into one end for various anchor setups.

I have 2 kernmaster ropes, ok one was a nice present from someone but it's still awesome rope, I love that it has a little bounce in it, and it only really becomes bouncy when the whole hank is nearly being used. For 60/70 footers it's fine, 100ft+ then yeah, but that's going to

Be similar with most other lines. I've tried the cougar blue and I have to say it really is nice and very static.

As for taking a fall on it??? Then you really need to route yourself better in the tree, during SRTWP operations you really shouldn't be in a fall arrest position, not anything that's going to generate that amount of force anyway. Regardless of if you rate kernmaster or not you can't say it's defiantly not worth it's price tag! Over £100 cheaper than cougar blue and still does the same job! Horses for courses here again with this one I'm afraid. It really is like saying I prefer my harness to another. What ever suits you I guess :)

Ha I don t know I only talk aloud and what I say is probably all bolloxs.

Although just to continue the bolloxs, a large rope access company would probably use all the right channels justifying the use of said rope and make sure they are insured.

I climbed on dyneema rope because Fred on Arbtalk did is not really going to cut it as justification.

If you get these ropes from say Freeworker in Germany they state clear not for PPE, although we all know we will use it as PPE

Not that I care, been climbing on these ropes for years, and actually dislike the stuff that's like ascending on piano wire, and like Adam a bit of bounce does not bother if anything I prefer it.

All valid point and as adam says horses for courses, see alot of people saybhow good kernmaster is just felt I should give my two cents worth, I no longer use cougar blue I prefer poison ivy and the other yale 11.7 range I find I can get a hitch dialled in perfectly and is as static as I need it, and to clear up the whole falling thing I was walking out on a limb doubled rope and it popped off and I had a little swing thats all.

Aye I love the Yale 11.7 stuff to and find the bounce fine for day to day stuff. A lot of this concern about falling and the reason our CE certified Static lines are the way they are (from my understanding) is more to do with industrial access and are not particularly relevant to tree work.

Check the video in this link, it's for Beal Dynastat which has a Vectran core not Dyneema that I stated earlier and a claimed 2% stretch which is lower than the standard 3-4 % you see in other lines.

Turning into an interesting thread! The marlow with knicks sounds lovely marc! For my two cents, yes cougar is quite static. No way near as much as snakebite or escalator though. As adam said, the benefit of srt is redirects to A spread the load around the canopy and B get better rope angle which in turn provides less chance of taking a fall or swing. If I base anchor on the cougar there is still a decent amount of stretch. As has been said if it meets equivalent standards in usa/oz etc it must be fit for purpose and should pass a loler if its in good condition. I just try to be pragmatic and sensible about how I use different kit and know its limitations. For what its worth I have taken a small fall on cougar top tied in gambia with very little rope in the system and it wasnt bad at all.
