Any ideas what I can do with this tabeltop. Cut from atlas cedar its about 9' long and 5 1/2 feet wide. Cut from a really gnarly lump of timber and has a lovely grain. The farmer that I rent a yard off wants to make a rustic table for his garden. It was felled last December and milled this week

Cheers

a table sound just the job however i'd be tempted to go for 6-8" legs considering the size of the top. 4" legs may look spindly and lost but it depends what the customer wants.

lets see some pics when its done...

You're prob right about going chunkier legs, easiest way to tell is hold few lumps of 4x2 (bound to be some old scrap bits laying about) against the slab and add/ take away bits until everyone is happy. Won't take long and won't cost anything more than 20min (which you could be sipping on a brew while doing)

I believe 4 legs would ruin this completely. Id suggest two wide legs, one at ether end, spanning the width of the top. Lovely piece of wood there.

Just my opinion though :)
