D L-J, asked me for feedback so IF YOU HAVE READ the book I am sure he would be interested in your views. Pretty sure he is an arbtalk member.

 

I came across the term RVT about ten years ago and think it the best way to reduce trees. From the looks of many reductions I see many tree surgeons have never come across the techniques. It's not rocket science but IMO trees look and respond better then the lopping which is often called a reduction.

 

Many in the industry (including the BS3998) seem to have become very anti reduction. While I agree on the whole and often advise clients against reducing trees, I also believe that urban trees useful life expectancy can be extended using such techniques.

I was taught this technique while working for Mike Ellis(Cheshire Woodlands) & also the man behind the QTRA he was based in Poynton in Cheshire & did a lot of work for OCA, I'm going back to 95.

I look forward to reading it, I used to practice thin to reduce, and can see the logic and benefits of it, for one its much easier and quicker leaving a more natural flowing outline. Like everything it can be done badly and used inapropiatly.

I'll have a read later.
