touch wood i have been very lucky that by the time we lay hedges the blighters have gone and not found a nest same with strimming or hedge cutting been very lucky not to hit a nest. makes me come out in a cold sweat thinking about it. as did a hedge last week and was advised that there was a wasps nest but did not see any. only thing i did have was some bee hives near to were i was strimming and bee keeper said be careful as they may think you are a hornet and come out and take you on.

I was cutting a yew hedge a few years back and some big old orange hornets started coming out ..I dropped the hedge cutter and legged it !

I was clearing some clippings and old plants at the bottom of the garden last week and found a nest, they found me first though I got stung twice on the belly inside my shirt. I dropped a big root ball on the nest and legged it then went back next day to clear them out. Put vinegar and rubbed a copper coin on the sting which we read on the net and it does take the sting out but it still itched like mad 4 days later.
