Is willow a good firewood?

If you mix it in with something slower burning i.e alder it makes a good mix, I've been burning it for years cheap heating as nobody else wants it

I think it comes down the same old same old ....All wood burns if its seasoned and dry , some faster than others , but it burns . If you want it or not is something else .

I work on rivers and get a fair bit of willow to take home. It burns quick but delivers a lot of heat. I personally have no patience with hardwood so it works good here. I'd have it any day especially if offered for free!

Trouble with Willow is that when it's wet it's full of water, when it's dry it's full of air.

People say that willow has a low calorific value ie dosn't produce much heat for the amount of time it burns. The fact of the matter is that if you went by those standards you'd have a hard time starting and maintaining a good fire with nothing but high calorific slow burning wood like oak and beach. The key is to have a good mix of species and to be fair there's nothing wrong with some seasoned willow or even some softwood for that matter. I tend to burn everything that i can't sell which is usually pop and conifer but nobody is ever cold in my house or workshop

It's not as soft as Poplar or Balsa and they are hardwood as well.

i was given a load i left it to dry out and as other posts i burn it with slower burning wood to keep the heat in. its only downside it does spit a bit so fireguard at hand if open fire
