No, quite agree. Bellamy should buy my 346XP so i can replace it with a 372XP to bridge the gap between the 550XP and MS660 as i can't afford an MS461 while i'm saving for the MS880, new splitter and second chipper to go with the rest of my gear that doesn't get used every day

I used to have a 254xp and sold it to part fund a 550xp and so far i'd say its the right thing to do, the 254 was and still is a belter of a saw but compared to the 550 it does feel clunky and dated and the anti vibe is much better on the new saw so if you're going to be using it all day then that may be something to consider. Also if your 254 is still in decent nick there are plenty of people willing to pay reasonable money for it however if you use it till it dies then the cost of replacement parts especially pot/piston make them almost worthless. Hope this helps

Cheers for the replies everyone. I'll have to go with the majority, as the saws running fine I'll just see how it goes & maybe in the future make the jump to the 550 & keep the 254 as a back up. + it certainly looks in better condition than the one on ebay at the moment with a big crack in the ali side plate at £250!!!

In agree but buy the replacement while the 254 is still running well, I'm never comfortable going to work with just one saw, mainly in case I get stuck or break a sprocket mid way through something.

 

I never got on with short bars on the small saws for snedding and do use a 254 with 15" bar,

 

I've been impressed by the 550 and 560 but the guys do seem to over rev them to the point of 4 stroking.
