Ok ok ok I get it that I'm having a right old rant but doesn't it just piss you off a little bit anyone

No mate, I have been at this a long time and found out a long time ago that things wouldn't change by themselves and that there was nothing I could do about it.

Have a rant, then sit down with the phone book and drum yourself some work up, have the others worry about what you are doing rather than you doing the worrying.

no matter what you do someone will come in and undercut you. i priced a grass cutting job quoted £40 a cut every two weeks on a recreation ground. a large firm priced it at £30. why they had to go that way cutting other jobs so it paid for there fuel. could not compete with them. quoted for a grasscutting job was £50 cheaper went with the other firm as bigger nad thought they would do a better job. they noe know they do not. so even if they did not by climbing gear on the cheap will still go for job and beat you on price. all you can do is carry on and get work on recomendations and references. there are still people out there who want a decent job done at a fair price. not for the cheapest.

Don't waste brain power on things you can't influence.

There will always be the undercutters, they will come and go. AND there will always be the professionals (YOU). On a day to day basis the undercutters will take customers, but the crap job they will do means they can't keep customers so you will get the work next time.

How many times have you been contacted by customers who say

'Oh blimey, last year we got someone cheap and they made a right hash of it - so we said NEVER AGAIN, thats why we called you'

Concentrate on being professional - let the scum bags work for the Lidl brigade.

He who insists on the cheapest usually gets the shoddiest.

Billbigtree, are you mad about the items being sold to people that may or may not know how to use the gear?. And in turn hurt them selfs or others in the process, hence raising operating cost because of increased insurance cost due to preventable accidents in the first place?. Unfortunately in this industry and many others the customer needs to be aware of the persons qualifications and tools before jumping on the lowest price, sadly this rarely happens on either side of the Atlantic. Take care of yourself and your own business affairs as a professional. I suspect you will prevail in the end.
